A new chapter in Altena

Expanding European manufacturing capabilities

In 2026, Winoa commissioned a fully integrated heat treatment line at the Altena facility, enabling local production of High Durability (HD) Cut Wire in Europe.

Developed through Winoa’s long-term strategic partnership with Toyo Seiko and supported by the integration of Frohn, this investment allows European production of HD cut wire under proven Japanese manufacturing standards while bringing customers closer to production, expertise, and technical support.

The Altena site now performs the complete manufacturing process:

  • Wire sourcing
  • Precision cutting
  • Heat treatment
  • G1, G2 and G3 conditioning
  • Laboratory testing and hardness control
  • Final inspection and packaging

Applications

Applications Across Critical Industries

Shot peening is a critical surface treatment process used across multiple industries to improve fatigue strength, durability, and overall component performance. The automotive sector represents approximately 70% of global demand, with applications including valve springs, suspension components, gears, shafts, crankshafts, and connecting rods.

In aerospace and defense, shot peening is essential for enhancing the reliability of landing gear, airframe components, turbine parts, and structural elements operating in demanding environments. The process is also widely used in the energy sector for oil and gas equipment, power generation components, and wind turbine gearboxes.

Beyond these industries, shot peening plays an important role in general manufacturing for surface preparation, cleaning, deburring, and blast finishing operations.

Beyond Media: Complete Shot Peening Solutions

From Media to Performance

At Winoa, we believe shot peening performance depends on three pillars:

Media

Premium cut wire and peening media.

Process

Qualification, coverage verification, Almen intensity control and process optimization.

Performance

Ongoing monitoring through W Care services, including audits, diagnostics and residual stress validation.  This integrated approach makes Winoa a one-stop shop for shot peening solutions across Europe.
